Encre simulacre echoes the notion of erasure – of a memory, a voice, a space – by shifting perception from the retina to the ear. In the tradition of the palimpsest, the different layers of writing – through the double choir and the extension constituted by the electronic part – give a sonic multiplicity to Jacques Roubaud’s text, in a vocal halo with intertwined temporalities. In counterpoint to the resulting illusionary plays, the reminiscences of a sound imprint evoking the baroque repertoire also place the question of memory at the heart of the work.
